While a fellow Atlassian recently lamented losing his number one position on Google after five years on top, for the first time ever, I now appear as the number one hit for “Christopher Owen“.
While I have been the number one hit on google.com.au for some time, on google.com I had been battling the awesome power of the actor Chris Owen (the Sherminator of American Pie fame) and, even more embarrassing, the previous number one hit: a page on mugshots.org listed under the “Sex Offender” category. Hurrah!
I do actually encourage readers to check out the mugshot and verify that indeed the photograph looks nothing like me… thankfully. I won’t link to the pages in question for fear of losing this hallowed status.
Sorry mate, Chris Owen the actor’s Wikipedia page comes up number 1 on a search from over here. The mugshot guy is second and then another sherminator page at position 3 at hollywood.com. Your linkedin.com page comes up 6th
@Niki: Were you signed in? Google seems to weight rankings differently if you’re logged in while doing the search. The only thing I can think of is that they also take geo-location into account as well.
Wanna but a dime-bag, man?
There is also usually a difference between google.com.au and google.com search
@chris: Yep, as I said I had been top of the .au site for a while now; it’s only in the last week that I’ve noticed being the number one on google.com. As Niki says but, YMMV 🙂
Ooer. You are number 1 on google.cl and number 2 on google.com for me (in Chile, regardless of whether I am logged into Google or not) after Sherminator’s wikipedia page.
Does this mean you are going to post more often? 😉
